In NaNoWriMo the world is sectioned off into magical things called Regions. These Regions contain talented writers (called Wrimos) of all ages and are herded, uh, we mean, tended lovingly by Municipal Liaisons who run meetings, give support and advice, and cheer on the Wrimos.

Plot Box of Doom is the website for the NaNoWriMo Region Oregon:: Salem, located in Salem, Oregon and it's surrounding areas. We welcome anyone from anywhere at any time! It's our second home and a great place to keep in touch during the off-season, and give support and find resources during November.

Writers in the Salem, Oregon Region are happily tended by two Municipal Liaisons (MLs); Jamie King and Savanna Bidwell.

The Salem, Oregon Region had approximately 200+ writers affiliated in 2007, with over 57% of affiliated Wrimos active, and we expect to continue to grow as a group. We ended last year with some pretty impressive numbers for our little Region:

  1. We at #142 out of 349 Regions participating in terms of amount of overall Regional word count, ending November with 2,515,759 words written.

  2. In terms of word count per person, we ended the year at #85 with 131,02.91 words per person.

  3. We ended the year with 24 winners out of 60 active homed Salem Wrimos.

  4. Our largest single Wrimo word count for last year was 135,556.

  5. We also ended last year tied with Washington D.C. ranking #31 in terms of donations.

We are a very enthusiastic Region, and we can average anywhere from 15 to 40 people per meeting! We meet each Saturday in November (general meetings, all-day write-in), along with meetings pre-November (workshops, kick-off parties), online virtual chat meetings, and meetings post-November (TGIO Party) and field trips during the the month to movies, readings and book events such as Wordstock in Portland.

Our Region also takes part in the Capital Wordwar Smackdown against Olympia, Washington; they are an amazing Region with Wrimos that keep us on our toes. We're pleased to announce that we have won the title of Champions in both 2006 and 2007.

Our group is very diverse, including grade school students all the way up to retired folks. We have published authors of every genre, students, mothers, and everyone in between. Many of our writers have been participating for years, some of them have even been participating for nearly a decade.

If you're interested in learning more, please don't hesistate to contact an ML or join either the PBD Forum or the Oregon:: Salem NaNoWriMo Forum and shoot us a note. Also, please feel free to join our Region, we'd love to have you!
